Pharmapack Europe today announced that Owen Mumford Pharmaceutical Services received one of its 2023 Pharmapack Awards.
The company received recognition in the “Drug Delivery Innovation” category for its UniSafe reusable, connected auto-injector.
Woodstock, United Kingdom-based Owen Mumford designed UniSafe as a companion device for its UniSafe 1mL safety syringes. These devices deliver subcutaneous medication.
UniSafe provides patients with a continual dose progression indicator and a true end-of-dose notification. It also comes with the option of inbuilt connectivity through automatic Bluetooth.
Owen Mumford designed UniSafe so it does not rely on an internal spring to retract the needle into the safety shroud. This protects the patient during use, according to the company’s website. The UniSafe safety shroud fully encases the needle and automatically positions as the user completes their injection procedure. Once complete, with the plunger fully depressed, the needle retracts into the safety shroud with no additional steps required.
The system also features the prevention of syringe plunger removal from the rear of the device. Its plunger and integrated stopper help to prevent drug leakage and wastage and in turn possible missed injections. Owen Mumford said the ability to prevent plunger removal provides tamper evidence and helps prevent product reuse.
